NO CALCULUS + JAVA HWK LOOKING DO-ABLE + PEACH MILKSHAKE = SHAN HAPPY
Which is rare.
So lets talk about something nice. Like flowers. Sunshine. Marshmallow teddy bears dancing in heaven-town.
Or how about The Smiths song "How Soon Is Now"?
I know I know, I am not a 'real' Smiths fan, I am a 'poser' yes yes I only listen to the most popular song, not the hitherto 'hidden' records only dug up by people in The Smiths Appreciation Station...keep the abuse coming...
And it's true, I am not a huge Smiths fan, but I just can't get this song out of my head. Most hard-core Smiths fan bullock this song for not being all representative of their usual style, but who bloody cares?? Its a good song, with amazing lyrics. If you are like me (as in a Syd-Barrett-type random artistic loner, with the people skill of a ginger biscuit) then you can completely relate to this idea of a "shyness that is criminally vulgar". I love the riffs, I love all the twingly twangy guitar bits throughout. But I love the lyrics the most. Here are some excerpts:
I am the son
and the heir
of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
of nothing in particular
You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does
and the heir
of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
of nothing in particular
You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does
There's a club if you'd like to go
you could meet somebody who really loves you
so you go, and you stand on your own
and you leave on your own
and you go home, and you cry
and you want to die
When you say it's gonna happen "now"
well, when exactly do you mean?
see I've already waited too long
and all my hope is gone
you could meet somebody who really loves you
so you go, and you stand on your own
and you leave on your own
and you go home, and you cry
and you want to die
When you say it's gonna happen "now"
well, when exactly do you mean?
see I've already waited too long
and all my hope is gone
Ok, so I have pretty much copied the whole song minus the chorus repeat.
Without getting into the whole wishy-washy emotional bits of my psych, lets just take a moment to appreciate how much you can relate to this (all you sleepless artists out there). For me its all about how shy people are labeled in the wrong way, as if they cannot deal with people.
Like if you go to a 'club' (or any public sphere for that matter), despite all the effort you make you just 'stand on your own' and you feel like a freak, and at the end you 'leave on your own' and the world crashes around you. There is an incredible rush of feelings at the words "I am human and I need to be loved, just like everybody else does"; its like begging for for some sort of attention from somebody, some sign that someone is looking at you and noticing you, or that they remember your name or that you have not been ignored along with the haziness of the background.
Morrissey would probably scoff at my pathetic analysis.
To make the hardcore Smiths fans feel even worse, I first liked this song when Love Spit Love covered it. Alright, alright, I think I hear knives being sharpened. But I loved Charmed and you can't deny that the theme song was one of the best ever.
But I truly am in love with this song in its original glory.
All right, that's it for now, my happy mood is wearing off, the milkshake is already making its way through my digestive tracts and there's more Java to look forward to (and how could the day get any better?).
