Soy Milk Tastes Like Crap

Remember how I wrote a while ago about how I think I'm lactose intolerant now?

So I decided to buy soy milk a week ago, since I could not drink regular milk; but I didn't have the courage to drink it until yesterday.

So there I was, innocently pouring the white/brown soy milk in my cup, humming a beautiful melody of sorrow and joy. I sat on my bed, with my warm glass of 'milk', to curl up and think about the philosophy of life, or whatever the fuck people do when they are depressed, and took a sip of the soy milk...

What. The. Fuck.

Blah!

BLERGH!

It tastes like water strained with bran flakes. Which is a pretty close description of what it actually is.

People are always fucking on about how they substitute soy milk for cows milk, and considering the fact that it has the word 'milk' in it, I thought that at least it will taste like watered down dairy milk. But it tastes like fiber-water =__=

And the only reason it's considered a substitute is because it replaces proteins, calcium and other shit that people get from cows milk. But, but - how can you have hot chocolate and cookies using soy milk? Well, you can't, your life just sucks now.

I think I'm going to do what one of the comments suggested in my last post - keep drinking normal milk until my body just gets used to it.

  1. Ugh soy milk pfftt

    I think my mom told me I used to drink it, case my grampa and my dad used to buy fresh ones. If I remember it didn't taste that bad, it actually tastes like normal milk but with a hint of beany taste, if you get my drift.

    but yeah, I accidentally bought soy milk during my first week here, cause AMERICANS HAVE SO MANY FRIKKING CHOICES FOR EVERYTHING :O

    I returned it, so I'm sorry you had to try that.

  2. Hahaha. Pics are real funny. Try almond milk that wouldnt be so bad. Thank god I am not lactose intolerant.(I am not raining on your parade) because I cant live without dairy items - milk, yougurt, buttermilk and stuff. I need milk in coffee, tea and every drink except juices.

    Trust me, it tastes nothing like normal milk. It tastes like water mixed with fiber flakes. Cels said she tried soy milk, but she hated it as well =(

    I don't get how vegans do it.

  4. @me and my thinking cap:

    I don't think I can find almond milk here, only almond oil. I mean, no point in making milk out of it, might as well just eat the almonds, right? I'm sure almond milk would taste sweeter though.

    Weirdly enough, I can eat yogurt now.

  7. Hey, I know that comment! Seriously, it's 100% true, though, and I don't regret the stomach aches that I endured for those first few months. I couldn't do soy milk either. It's just really, really not the same. Frankly, if soy milk was beer, it'd be Coors Light.

    Yeh Cels said the same, I think it;s the chocolate that makes it taste good :P Plain soy milk tastes terrible

    @Cels:
    Anything free tastes much better :)

    @Beer for the Shower:
    Yeh, thanks for that comment, otherwise I wouldn't know that it was possible to fight lactose intolerance
